The Digital Immigrants Survival Kit DISK presented at the EDEN Annual Conference 2021 (24 June 2021)

EDEN – European Distance and E-learning Network

EDEN is a non-profit body and educational association registered in the UK since 1991, with more than 180 institutional members and over 1100 members in the Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP), EDEN assists a wide range of institutions, networks, and individuals to become involved in professional information and networking activities. It does so through the organization of acknowledged European conferences, its scholarly publications and information services, and by taking an active role in a wide range of important EU projects. EDEN has also been successful with thematic activities such as the Open Classroom Conferences (school level distance education), and by promoting, ‘cutting edge research in the field., EDEN owns and manages the European Journal of Open, Distance, and E-Learning (EURODL). EDEN is the smart network for the professional community and a professional community for smart learning. The DISK project was disseminated on the 24th June 2021 at the EDEN 30th Annual Conference hosted by the National Distance Education University UNED in Madrid 22-25 June 2021. The presentation was given at the Synergy session where projects can be disseminated for discussions and networking. All partners were the authors; for the submission: E. Ossiannilsson, QOOL – Ossiannilsson Quality in Open Online Learning Consultancy, Sweden; P. Ebba Ossiannilsson QOOL made the presentation, and Alfredo Soeiro attended the session as well.

The main topics of the 30th Annual Conference in Madrid were:

  • learner centredness in education
  • evolution of ODL
  • the transformation of f2f teaching
  • through online to blended learning and the adapting to “new normal”
  • digital preparedness, digital literacy, and digital citizenship
  • micro-credentials in HE
  • diversity and social inclusion
  • continued adoption of AI
  • EU Education and Training Policy in ODL

The EDEN conferences:

  • have become major academic and professional ODL events in Europe, supporting professionalization and international exchange of experience and expertise;
  • are gatherings where comprehensive and orientative contributions are presented by outstanding experts, politicians, and academics;
  • are based on collecting best practices – every year papers presented in conference sessions are selected for publication in the ‘proceedings’, serving as important resources for the professional community;
  • have a genuine community feel to them, where existing working relationships strengthen and deepen, and where new partnerships are formed.
