MyDigiSkills-Self Evaluation Tool

The project DISK (Digital Immigrants Survival Toolkit) aims to develop a toolkit for Digital Immigrants to improve their digital literacy. To be an active citizen in a digital society, if one does not have adequate digital skills, one risks being left behind as more and more social activities and services are performed online, alongside tasks in private life, business, and work. The DISK project and its skills map and toolkit with its modules are based on the European Digital Competence Framework for citizens known as DigComp and its five domains; information and Data Literacy, communication and collaboration, Digital Content Creation, security, and  problem-solving. In addition, a self-assessment tool, a mandala, is being developed as part of the DISK project.

MyDigitalSkills Tool

The European Commission launched an interactive self-assessment tool MyDigiSkills for digital skills on 23 March 2021. MyDigiSkills helps to better understand one’s level of digital skills based on knowledge, skills, and attitudes in each of the five areas of the European Digital Competence Framework for citizens, known as DigComp. The five areas are:

  • Information and Data Literacy
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Digital Content Creation
  • Security
  • Problem-solving

The tool as such has three parts, analyzing, discovering, and accessing opportunities for improvements.

The tool is already available in different languages; English, German, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Romanian, and Spanish, but will develop in several other official EU languages.

Take the test!

The test takes around 20 minutes to complete, but do not worry if it takes more or less time. The website asks to self-assess one’s digital skills in the five covered sections as in DigComp.

  • Information and Data Literacy
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Digital Content Creation
  • Security
  • Problem-solving

It is of course as always, important to answer honestly and as completely as possible to get the most accurate assessment of your digital skills. Each of the 82 questions requires you to answer simple statements with responses such as “I have a good understanding of this” or “I can do this with help”. Some questions ask you about your skills, some about your knowledge, and some about your attitude towards digital technology. Some will maybe be easier to answer than others, but try to choose the option that best describes YOU for each question.

After selecting your answer for each question, click the Submit button to move to the next question. In the end, you must click the Finish button to receive your results. When completed the questionnaire, the system gives feedback on one’s digital skills in these five areas, and one receives a report on the level of digital skills, even for downloading and saving.

The MyDigiSkills system was created at Creative Commons Licence by ALL DIGITAL as part of the DigCompSAT project of the Joint Research Council of European Commission. ALL DIGITAL represents networks of digital competence centers, ICT learning centers, adult education centers, and libraries across Europe where children and adults can access the Internet and learn the latest digital skills.

A call is out for DigComp 2.2. The DigComp 2.2 revision starts in January 2021. It focuses on the list of examples of knowledge, skills, and attitudes applicable to each one of the 21 DigComp competencies (Dimension 4). The process of the update is managed by the JRC (B4) in close collaboration with the DigComp stakeholders’ community, experts, and a wider user-base. A new publication with the updated DigComp framework and all reference material will be published in 2022.
